Jennifer Herrera Condry

Born and raised in Harlem, New York, Jennifer Herrera Condry is the daughter of Dominican immigrants. She is an herbalist and herbal product maker, arts administrator, teaching artist, and the creative director of Juniper Creative Arts. She facilitates creative place-making to foster community-building, personal expression, sense of belonging, and healing.

Jennifer holds an M.A. in Spanish linguistics from the Middlebury Language Schools and a B.F.A in art history and business from Hunter College. Prior to co-founding Juniper Creative with her husband, Will Kasso Condry, Jennifer worked for 22 years in higher education focusing on multicultural student success. During her 18-year tenure at Middlebury College, Jennifer led efforts for the retention and care of BIPOC and First-Generation college students, developed co-curricular programs and creative experiences to support student success, identity development and sense of belonging. She received several awards for this work including the prestigious Virtue Family Exceptional Service award which, according to Middlebury College, recognizes “faculty and staff who have gone above and beyond their normal professional responsibilities to support and connect with students in ways that build a more engaged and inclusive Middlebury community.” Jennifer is a visionary leader with many years of experience in art curation, arts management, program design, project management, strategic planning, and organizational development. She is currently on the Board of Trustees of the ACLU of Vermont and was previously on the Board of Directors for local LGBTQ+ nonprofit organization Outright Vermont where she received the 2016 Lil Venner Award.

Jennifer is a lifelong herbalism student, a Hatha Yoga practitioner, and a Reiki Master. Her herbal medicine knowledge comes from ancestral wisdom, being in direct relationship with plants, independent study, and traditional educational programs. All of her work, and what she brings to the table, is deeply rooted in her spiritual lineage and Afro-Indigenous healing practices.

“I am the embodiment of a rich family legacy of espiritistas, artists, entrepreneurs, healers, and warriors from Ayiti Kiskeya (Taíno name for the island now known as Haiti and Dominican Republic). Because of them I am. I honor the path that they chose for me. Being an herbalist and spiritualist is about my connection to my ancestors and spirit. It’s about healing generational trauma from systemic violence and oppression through ancestral wisdom and practices. It’s about being a survivor and warrior. It’s about learning, growing, developing, flowing, and being in alignment with nature. It’s about honoring and moving at the pace of the seasons. It’s about living with intention and purpose. It’s about being a powerful creator and woman. It’s about creating the life I want filled with love, joy, peace, pleasure, and faith. It’s my art life. I am because of them.”
