Chameleon: Knight of Wands
“Knight of Wands” is a reflection on mortality and the protection of precious life. Painted over several months between 2022-2023, “Knight of Wands” represents Will’s personal health journey during a time of intense challenge.
The powerful imagery in the “Knight of Wands” invites us to transform challenge into healing and opportunity. It speaks to the courage required to take control of one's health and can resonate with anyone who has faced their own battles.
The figure stands clad in studded body armor, symbolizing protection against the trials we face, mirroring Will's own health-related struggles. The skull that sits on top of the figure’s head is representative of his mortality and ancestors—those who came before him and those he draws strength and guidance from in this life.
The warrior carries a wrapped object on his back, which is a metaphorical sword symbolizing Will’s heart. The tightly bound laces of the sword represent the narrow arteries due to his genetic heart condition, echoing the struggle to carry life-sustaining blood. The concealment of the heart in times of conflict speaks to the warrior’s need to protect this vital organ. This is a warrior who does not wear his heart on his sleeve.
He also holds a wooden bow which is a symbol of defense, courage, and strength. Wrapped around the bow is a flower whose stem spirals upward like a snake, that blooms into a fiery flower that attracts a bee—representing vitality and life. This dynamic interaction highlights the constant flow of life, echoing Will’s own journey towards balance and good health amidst adversity. The background of water droplets reflects the presence of harmful heavy metals in the blood, our soil and water—elements that can hinder good health. The symbolic imagery in “Knight of Wands” calls us to confront the obstacles in our lives and embrace the changes necessary for healing.
A note about The Chameleon Series
In a world where hope flickers like a dying flame, the ancient spirits known as “The Chameleons” rise to protect what is sacred and endangered. These guardians of land and sea take on the forms of children, yet their towering presence can rival the might of mountains. Masters of transformation, they shift effortlessly between shapes, embodying the essence of their surroundings while moving with an unparalleled speed and silence. As custodians of profound knowledge, “The Chameleons” are the bridge to a higher wisdom akin to the divine. When the relationship between humans and nature is threatened and the pulse of the earth weakens, “The Chameleons” are summoned, ready to restore harmony and nurture the fragile threads of life. “The Chameleons” represent a deeper narrative of hope, resilience, and the interconnectedness of all beings.
